About the Literary Society

MISSION

The Literary Society of the Southwest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that celebrates contemporary literature and authors and promotes the cause of literacy in Arizona. The organization hosts author-focused events in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson from fall through spring.

VISION

The vision of the Literary Society of the Southwest is to bring the joy and lifelong benefits of reading to all.

HISTORY

In 2005, two Northern Trust Bank executives introduced the idea of a Literary Society in Arizona, giving birth to the Literary and Prologue Society of the Southwest, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Community grants are made annually through contributions from the 600 members, individuals and corporations. The leadership structure transitioned to an independent board of directors in 2020.
